Camp Beng Mealea was built in late 2010 and is based outside Siem Reap, Cambodia’s second city and the gateway to the fascinating Khmer Empire. It is here that the stunning temples of Angkor Wat and the ancient capital of Angkor Thom can be found.
This part of Cambodia is home to literally hundreds of temples built between 1200 and 800 years ago with many towns and villages springing up originally to support the communities at these temples. The commune of Beng Mealea is no different, the main road lying right next to the entrance of the dramatic Beng Mealea Temple. Our Camp is a short way down this same road, hidden from view by the local school and the beautiful Buddhist Pagoda. The pace of life in Beng Mealea is slow and relaxed and it’s very easy to imagine that it has changed little in hundreds of years.
