The trip will be in the summer holidays of 2015, for 4 weeks.
During the trip, I will:
- Live as part of a small community in Cambodia
- Work on important social and conservation projects, improving the lives of the local people in Beng Mealea
- Take part in an important forest regeneration project
This trip is not a holiday, it is to enhance the lives of others through conservation, construction and socialization. The living accommodation is basic, in the main camp living in a bamboo huts with a blanket and mattress on the floor. But it is all part of the experience; adapting to a new culture and environment. During the day I will participate in 'project work' but because this has not being finalized it could be anything from low-level construction work, painting classrooms, building desks and teaching pupils and adults or assisting with harvesting and planting. After a hard days work there will be time for me to relax and get to know the culture and language (and have a go at hand washing my clothes!) but this is generally after 4pm so don't worry you are not paying for me to enjoy leisure time!
I will be also part of a reforestation program, where I will be helping to try and replenish the some of the very many trees that have been destroyed through times of unrest.
I shall mainly be on site for the duration but we shall also have the opportunity to go on a 5 day trek in the jungle and to see some of the wonderful temples in the area.
The core objectives of this expedition are to undertake projects in order to:
